Briefly explain and summarize the ad you're considering and share why you’d like to write an essay on it. It’d be great if you can include a link/embed a video to the ad, so the rest of the class can see it. This is also a good opportunity to ask for feedback if you are on the fence between several ads. This post does not have to be as long as your normal posts, but should be at least several sentences. Due by Monday 9/5 at 4 p.m.

I am thinking about doing the McDonalds Olympic commercial from the Rio Olympics. The commercial is called "Time After Time." It has a boy and a girl in the being in split screens, the boy hands something from the 80s or so to the girl in every scene and when she receives it is more modern. The last scene the boy hands the girl a chicken nugget and then slides over in to her screen and he is the girls father. Check it out and let me know what you think, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lj8pQR_pkU
ReplyDeleteoh my god I was totally going to do this one! So obviously I like the idea. good pick!
DeleteI was considering writing my analysis on the 2016 Pandora Music ad entitled "The Next Song Matters". The ad consists of various diverse people listening to a song and then describing how it makes them feel.check it out!

ahh i loved this commercial I wish I thought of this!! you should definitely do this one
DeleteWow, that is a powerful piece of advertising. Super interesting!
DeleteHonestly, I don't have a specific ad in mind. However, I think I'm leaning towards a car ad. I've noticed that car companies use commercial that don't specifically focus on the car until the end of the commercial. They focus more on the family aspect and how the car brings a family together or protects the family. Then, at the end, you realize it's a car commercial. They use an emotional angle that I find interesting.
ReplyDeleteI love car ads, and you're right. They persuade buyers with woth the power of love. There is a commercial for a car where it's a teenage girl getting her first car, but when it shows her from the dad's point of view she turns into a little, 5 year old girl in the driver's seat. This shows that the girl who is clearing beginning to grow up is still just a little girl in her dad's eyes. It pulls together the bond between a father and daughter and the emotion of getting your first car to touch viewers' hearts.

DeleteI am pondering which ad to do of these two so far. One is the 2013 mustang commercial ad. The other is the Audi r8 "the hostage commercial. I see that people are very interested in cars and car commercials have an interesting way of getting peoples attention. I also like cars a lot, so it is easy to write about and dig deep into. I also see that car companies seem to really want to appeal to a variety of people. They use peoples emotions and feelings to get people interested.

I will be doing my first essay on a Gatorade commercial. It has kevin Durant and Dwayne wade. At the beginning Kevin has a nightmare that Dwayne blocks his winning shot. Then the commercial shows him working hard. It then goes into the same shot except this time Kevin makes the shot. The commercial ends with Dwayne waking up from that nightmare. The slogan is "win from within".

This commercial is really good, especially since they used two great players like KD and DWade for this. Its really inspiring to athletes and other people to move over their obstacles and stuff. I love it.
DeleteHey guys, so i'm torn between 3 ads
ReplyDeleteM&M'S 75th - "Candyman" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bxGl6IxzSs) - which shows the evolution of the m&m commercials over the decades, whick i like because of thfeeling of nostalgia. The ad features Aloe Blacc and Zedd.
Monaco | 2017 Toyota Camry | Toyota (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgmow-_Mz8k) - This one shows two brothers as they race through the streets of Monaco.
Songs For All Your Sides Rachel Platten for Nationwide (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhYUQqm_ykM) -
I was initially torn between Toyota and nationwide because they'r both family oriented, but then I saw the M&M's commercial and everything fell apart. So I'd love to know which one y'all think I should use.
That M&M's ad is fascinating. It's working both as a commercial and as a music video. Very cool.
DeleteI will be doing my paper on the Cheerios ad. It's of the interracial family where the little girl asks her mother about the heart nutrition of the Cheerios stated on the box. The mom proceeds to tell the little girl that it helps keep the dad's cholesterol down and is good for his heart. The little girl runs out of the room and the commercial ends with the dad waking up from a nap with Cheerios on his chest over where his heart is. Aside from this being a precious ad, I chose it because it sparked racial tension. When the commercial was aired many racial comments surfaced on social media about the couple and their daughter. I'd like to delve into the race issue and bring to light the rediculous reactions to such a sweet ad. https://youtu.be/Z01qH-jqGBY
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about doing Walmart's back to school ad. The old-people music grabs the parents' attention while the rest of the commercial targets little kids (those three words don't go together very well, kind of uncomfortable). I want to cover this one because it sticks in your head, it's slightly amusing, and extremely ear piercing even though you probably aren't supposed to think that negatively since kids are adorable and do no wrong or something. If I don't do this one I was thinking about using the taco bell super bowl commercial because there is a lot of product placement and celebrity appearances to discuss.
ReplyDeleteThe commercial that I am considering doing is the only commercial that actually made me feel some emotions. It was so emotional to me that when I found out what it was actually advertising I was completely shocked. It's a compilation of a bunch of different scenes of fathers and their children, both happy and sad. This commercial was so emotional that it actually made me stop and think about my own dad and made me realize how much I miss my family now that I am in college on campus and do not get to see them often. I think there are many components of the commercial that will be good for me to analyze for this essay and I think most people will be able to relate to the commercial just as much as I did. Here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoqWo3SJ73c
ReplyDeleteI'm choosing the Taco Bell ad from the 2016 Super Bowl debuting the "cheese in the shell" taco. IT can be found at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2c2mPpvcpw during the 3:39-5:08 time marks. I'm choosing to write on it because it is full of pop culture references and celebrities (such as James Harden and George Takei). It's a wonderful ad that has a nice undertone that addresses the trends that seemingly pop up every other day and then become irrelevant when the next popular trend appears. Give the link a watch, its one of ten other Super Bowl ads from this past year that all bring something special to the table.
ReplyDeleteThe ad I chose for our first essay is a Sketchers ad using Kim Kardashian to sell Sketchers Shape-Ups. The ad is very suggestive and way more sexual than a pair of workout shoes should be. Using this ad, I want to talk about how sex sells, and how many commercials and advertisements display woman and men doing sexually suggestive things in order to get our attention. I also want to discuss how advertisements use sex to sell us things that wouldn’t otherwise be considered sexy.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NI-uy_iSD7A
Kim K definitely was a good way to sell Skechers, I mean I still don't think they're sexy no matter who wears them. However, many people love looking at what the celebrities wear so of course using a celebrity like Kim K sells.
DeleteI think I want to do my essay on a Foot Locker commercial that I found very entertaining. In it, Draymond Green couldn't recognize Horace Grant and then neither could recognize Michelle Williams but the whole concept of the commercial was to stand out in foot locker gear. Horace Grant only stands out with his goggles and Michelle really didn't stand out when she was behind Beyonce in Destiny's child.

THE SHADE lol.
DeleteI am choosing between the Carl's Jr commercial for Kim Kardashian salad commercial , their Texas BBQ thick Burger, or their bacon 3-way burger. I want to write about one of their commercials because they give extreme sexual innuendo to what is supposed to be a burger commercial. Each commercial is ironic and stereotypical in their own way so I feel confident I can get a decent essay out of either one of them.
ReplyDeleteKims Comercial: https://youtu.be/DzmFrcuwuuo
Texas Commercial: https://youtu.be/9e-NFBT-6mc
3-way: https://youtu.be/FDE3yYibelo
The ad I’m considering is an Arby’s commercial that is basically comparing itself to Chick-fil-a. The ad starts of with a lineup of visually appealing sandwiches, to promote their new product the buttermilk chicken sandwich. The voice over goes in to describe their newest sandwich. The camera pans over to different types of whole deli meat. The voice over then throws massive amounts of shade at Chick-fil-a. “Arby’s would never become a chicken only restaurant. WHO would go to a place that only sold chicken…what would they call it? Chicken Town?” I choose this ad because it will be interesting to look at both sides of the ad. Chick-fil-a is a very popular fast food entity. Proving that people do actually eat at a chicken only restaurant.

I am currently indecisive on which ad I should do one of my ad are "Whomp there it is" when Maria really like the scent of gain and begins to dance every time she smells the detergent on her clothes throughout her day. The other ad is the "2016 Kia Sorento Super Bowl Commercial" where Pierce is in a office to listen for a role opportunity that playing in another ad that he assumes is full of action and potential violent but it actually is a calm or perfect getaway. I chose these ads because one uses pop culture with movies and the other uses kind of guilt.

I'm choosing an advertisement for the Microsoft Surface book. It's an advertisement that spans across various types of people, particularly different types of artists and "artsy" people. But it also includes a business-type woman overlooking a site. This add in particular talks about the rhythm of inspiration, which is why there's so many artist type people in the video, but it also goes in the direction of "retake the business, be bold. inspire" with other shots of the aforementioned business woman and then cuts to another shot of an athletic woman with monitoring gear. This shows the a small portion of the versatility of the Microsoft Surface Book and also encourages people to start creating again, which they can via their product. The music is also very uplifting, matching all the video sequences in sync and especially at the end, with the quote "everyone has greatness within us, with the right tools, there are no limits to where it'll take you". I feel like this is either using both fear/guilt and our natural desire of want and creativity to sell. This is partly because usually as we grow up, our creativity wanes and waxes and we seek to become better or rekindle the fire, in addition to for others, this is being shown as a great utility that would make their creative life easier.

for my paper, ill be writing about the m&m's 75th advertisement. it a very unique advertisement because it is actually a music video. because of this, it will give me more material to analyze and it gives a different advertising approach than we normally see. it will be cool to direct the ad and see how they utilize the music video platform to persuade their audience. it also uses older commercials from the past which is even better for this project.
