First Essay

I decided to base my paper on an "Obey your Thirst" commercial featuring Drake and Nas.  The message is to follow your dream with all of your heart but at the same time its promoting Sprite products. Lyrics by Drake, Biggie, Tupac, Nas, and more are placed on sprite products and then they are sold to the public.  I believe that lyrics on the cans and bottles seem to add more value to it than what it truly has.  Obey Your Thirst has a hidden message.  Its not only talking about drinking Sprite but also to obey your instinct when it comes to chasing your dream.  It also emphasizes Celebirty worship because they're using their fame to endorse and advertise a bigger brand.   This ad has a lot of surface denotations and associative connotations so I believe this commercial would be a good subject for the first essay.  The level of thinking and what they are talking about has a lot of substance so I feel people can learn from it as well.  When you have rap legends like Nas and the biggest star in music right now, Drake, it gains a lot of attention and makes people want to watch and listen to what the commercial has to offer.  A vase majority of people drink sprite so it will get to a lot of different audiences.  Its a brilliant commercial in my opinion because multiple meanings are being presented, so it will appeal to almost everybody that sees it in some way.
