Pop Culture Consumption

The treadmill of consumption will continue to exist because people still hope that there is something that could bring along their happiness. Even though they already know that material things won't make a difference.  When the author mentioned, "An integral component of the shiny-objects ethos is quick riches (Massik Solomon 124)" I agreed with them. I believed that money doesn't buy you happiness instead it creates  problems. You can see this throughout several celebrities, reality television shows that are broadcast in today's pop culture. Pop culture today allows people for generations to seek status consumption.  People are at risk of putting themselves in debt just to be known for their social status. Making these decisions aren't right to do but we learn and we live.  We are no longer concern with how we view ourselves infact we are only seem to be concern with what others believe we are to be. I believe that social status is what helps us cave into the cultural system that our pop culture wants or  makes us become what we buy as individuals. We are at fault as well for allowing this to happen but its is or appears to be for all we know to live since its been around for decades. The mass production is what promotes stylistic change because of the different products that they keep on producing so the consumers can continue on marketing.  The author realizes that there was a pattern within the decade-to-decade shift in consumer styles with the advent of modern advertising and mass production.
